Are Your Finances Drowning You? 4 Steps to Tackling Credit Card Debt

If you have credit card debt, it can be a very discouraging experience. While you might try to avoid thinking about it, debt has a way of lingering in your mind. If you’ve ever felt like the debt will never go away, understand that with hard work and dedication. You can get to a point where you’re debt-free. Implement the following steps to get started.

Face the Debt

It’s so important to face the debt. Look at the numbers. Don’t be afraid to face them. One of the hardest parts of the process is to look at it for what it is. Once you recognize the hard evidence, it’s time to face the reality of the situation. If you need to file for bankruptcy, do so with professional legal counsel. If you need to get on a payment plan, work on creating one.

Sell Items

In many homes, there are tons of items that you can salvage through. Start selling items. Do a garage sale. Go to a pawn shop and sell a few pieces. Get creative and auction some items on eBay and Craigslist.

Get a Part-Time Job

Get a part-time job and outside of taxes, devote all of the earnings toward the debt. Depending on your profession, see if it’s possible to pick up a few extra hours at work. Consider side jobs like freelancing writing and graphic design. If you have a few spare hours in the evening, offer to babysit children as a nanny. You can charge a specific fee and charge per child. There are so many routes to take when it’s time to make some extra money.

Focus

It’s very important to remain focused. Once you begin selling items and find new income streams, do everything you can to stay focused on the goal. Do not save the money to spend at a later time. Be intentional about throwing all of the money at your debt. It’s also helpful to see if there are any ways to negotiate your way to a lower deal. Sometimes, companies will forgive some of the debt if you decide to pay a specific amount in full.

Create a plan and maintain a strong level of positivity for the times when it gets rough. If you remain consistent with these steps and keep the end goal in mind, you’ll be able to experience life as a debt-free individual. Then, you’ll able to focus on life without anything hanging over your head.
